Tiffany Young, LEAP '22 and member of the LEAP Committee, interviews Ryan Morning, LSM '23; Leslie Taylor, Executive Program Class of 2024; Beverly Brown, LSM '14; and Jimmy Hayden, LSM '21 about the impact of mentoring, networking, and coaching in their professional and personal lives. The LEAP Class of 2024 convened on February 23 at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for a full-day exploration of the impact of mentoring, networking, and coaching relationships on leadership development.
Our deepest gratitude to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital for their amazing hospitality that nourished body, mind, and spirit. John Greely, LSM '11, MedStar St. Mary's Hospital Vice President of Operations and member of the LSM Board of Directors, welcomed the class and provided an opening brief about the hospital along with colleagues Donald Lewis (Director of Physician Services), Dr. Sharan Mullens (Obstetrics and Gynecology), and Dr. Veronica Marshall (General Surgery).
Heartfelt thanks, too, to our guest speakers whose presentations and interactive activities aligned in their message that authenticity and mutually beneficial relationship are the core of genuine networking, mentoring, and coaching. With that understanding, we pursue those relationships not as transactions but as opportunities for transformation. -

Executive Program participants share personal experiences of navigating differences.
The Executive Program Class of 2024 participated in a day-long session about issues of diversity in Southern Maryland and how to apply their learnings to their leadership in the region. The discussion took place at the College of Southern Maryland—Prince Frederick campus on March 7, 2024.
RADM Bert Johnston, USN (Ret.), an LSM Founding Sponsor, set the day’s course with a keynote on “Dealing with Gray Issues.”
Griff Hall, Founder of GRIFF Strategic Leadership, and Derek Matthews, Former Program Director for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, facilitated the remainder of the day with group activities related to dialoguing across differences and leading diverse teams.
The class discussed how to apply what they were learning to their growth as leaders in Southern Maryland.
“It was a very enlightening day,” said Pam Frank, executive director of the Charles County Military Alliance Council. “We truly benefited from having a space where we could really hear the variety of responses, comments, and thoughts that leaders from different backgrounds have about issues of diversity in Southern Maryland. I learned a lot.”
