A Warm Board Welcome for the Executive Program Class of 2024 |
On October 28, LSM Board President Tom Clark, LSM ’18, and Paige Painter hosted the 16th Annual Board Welcome Reception at their beautiful home in Tall Timbers. RADM (Ret.) Bert & Beverly Johnston were there to officially pass the ladle, and so we feasted on both the Clark-Painter’s delicious homemade chili and the Johnston’s wonderful shrimp and grits. The fellowship was the best part. Thank you, Tom and Paige, for continuing to nurture the bonds of LSM family! |

| GIVING TUESDAY CHALLENGE – NOVEMBER 28 |
Who will be the "Most Giving Class" for Giving Tuesday 2023?!! |
Did you know that 80% of Southern Maryland nonprofits have an annual income of less than $10,000?
Every Giving Tuesday, LSM raises nonprofit and small business scholarships. This year, we’re placing a special emphasis on LSM Nonprofit Scholarships to help our nonprofit partners gain a seat at the LSM table.
We’re challenging each LSM class to raise $1,500 for a 2024-2025 LSM Nonprofit Scholarship. Each class that hits that mark will have a scholarship in their name (e.g., the LSM Class of 20XX Nonprofit Scholarship). |
| |
Thank you for paying it forward for other Southern Maryland leaders! You'll get back more life-changing experiences with passionate people addressing our community’s needs. |
LSM YEAR-END GIVING – THROUGH DECEMBER 31 |
LSM’s Giving Season continues through December 31. Your gifts enable LSM to continue delivering on our mission to connect, educate, and inspire diverse leaders, fostering collaboration to address community needs in Southern Maryland. |

Executive Program Goes Inside the Gate of Naval Support Facility Indian Head |
MedStar St. Mary's Hospital Director of Case Management Jessica Roberts takes control of a bomb-disposing robot during a Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division robotics demonstration.
The LSM Executive Program went behind the gate of Naval Support Facility Indian Head earlier this month as part of its study of U.S. Navy activities in Southern Maryland to support America’s national defense and Southern Maryland’s economy and culture. The Indian Head base is the site of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD), the U.S. Navy's only Public Arsenal. NSWC IHD provides research, development, testing, evaluation, and manufacturing for munitions and energetics.
Christina Good, director of pricing and strategy at Island Creek Associates said, "I had no idea that we had such a complex and innovative defense facility right in our back yard. I knew that NSWC Indian Head existed, but truly did not understand the magnitude of capabilities offered."
The executives learned how they can support Indian Head and be part of the broader Southern Maryland defense community by supporting the Charles County Military Alliance Council, The Patuxent Partnership, and the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance. These critical advocacy groups champion Southern Maryland’s military bases and personnel and support their efforts to forge strategic partnerships.
LSM’s Defense Session was hosted by NSWC IHD Director of Public and Congressional Affairs Rebecca D’Ambrosio, LSM ’17, and Community Outreach/Protocol Specialist Janet Virgin, LSM ’20. NSWC IHD Director of Infrastructure, John Hungerford, LSM ’18, led a tour of the base, along with and command subject matter experts Darrin Krivitsky LSM ’21, Scott McKee, and Scott Wilmoth.
