LSM Homecoming 2023 Was a Blast! |
|
|
LSM family and friends gathered again "Under the Lighthouse" at Calvert Marine Museum for Homecoming 2023 on October 5. Graduates welcomed the newest members of our LSM family, reconnected with classmates, recognized LSM '16 as the Best Class Ever for 2023, and generated $12,848 in revenue to support LSM's mission!
Special thanks to Homecoming sponsor KBR; all the donors of our fabulous auction items; auctioneer extraordinaire Tom Clark, LSM '18; the Alumni Committee, headed by Marsha Williams, LSM '21; and the Homecoming Committee, co-chaired by Christa Hood, LSM '18 and Christina Taylor, LEAP '22, for bringing us such a wonderful event.

Executive Program Debuts Agriculture Session |
“I took something away from each session. It was eye-opening to see the connection between agriculture in the economy and to experience firsthand folks selling vegetables and goods at the market that they had produced themselves. These conversations and sessions made the connectedness between farmers, sellers, consumers, and the county economy clear--it was just not something I had considered in my day-to-day business.” Paul Reynolds, SMX The Executive Program launched a new session on Southern Maryland Agriculture on Wednesday, October 4.
After an opening brief by local and state agriculture specialists Kellie Hinkle (St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development), Martin Proulx (Maryland Department of Agriculture), and Caroline Trossbach (Calvert County Department of Economic Development), the class traveled to the Loveville Produce Auction to enjoy the best produce and flora ever. Participants learned lessons in life and leadership with Bernie Fowler, Jr. and his team at Farming 4 Hunger. And they explored intersections of agricultural industry practices and environmental sustainability efforts with Stacy Hutchinson, LSM '23 (Chesapeake Biological Laboratory); Capts. Simon and Rachel Dean (Patuxent River Seafood); JR Cosgrove, LSM '22 (Horsmon Farm); Dr. Tom Miller (Chesapeake Biological Laboratory); Rachel Jones (Maryland Department of Agriculture); and (not pictured) Brett Grohsgal (Even’ Star Farm).
The finale was a behind-the-scenes tour of Calvert Marine Museum hosted by director Jeff Murray and curators Stephen Godfrey, Matthew Neff, and Mark Wilkins. |
