LSM Homecoming is October 22! |
We can't wait to see you!
Date: Thursday, October 22, 2026 Time: 5-7:30pm
Location: Farming 4 Hunger - Serenity Farm Rd, Hughesville, MD
Come reconnect with your fellow LSM grads and meet members of the Executive Program Class of 2027. There will be refreshments, a 50/50 raffle, fabulous auction items ... and announcement of the winners of the Drive to the End Zone Game and the 2026 Best Class Ever Challenge!
Even better ... in keeping with LSM's mission to foster collaboration to address community needs, we are partnering with Farming 4 Hunger (F4H) to hold a community food drive!
Please bring nonperishable food items to F4H on the day of Homecoming, Thursday, October 22. F4H will accept LSM food donations all day in case you are unable to attend Homecoming in the evening. LSM alumni will then work alongside F4H staff to distribute the collected food to local pantries, ensuring families have what they need just in time for the holidays. (Sign up here to help dstribute food.)
We are excited to host this year's Homecoming at F4H, where the Executive Program will have spent the day. But we're especially grateful for this chance to support the work of F4H and of LSM 2016 Heritage Awardee Bernie Fowler, Jr. -- "feeding people both physically and mentally through locally grown food and life-sharing initiatives." Thank you for your support. We can't wait to see you there. Spouses and friends are welcome! Tickets:
Current LSMAA members: Free -- Please RSVP.
Non-LSMAA members: $20 -- Purchase tickets HERE.
Not an LSMAA member? Join HERE. See you at the farm!

LEAP 2027 Application Deadline ... Today, October 15! |
Executive Program Gets to the Roots of Agriculture and the Environment |
Forrest Hall Farm owner David Wood leads a discussion with Executive Program participants about the history and evolution of agritourism in Southern Maryland. The Executive Program met on October 7 for an immersive exploration of Southern Maryland’s agriculture and environment.
The group gathered at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Md., where they were introduced to current issues affecting Southern Maryland agriculture with local and state specialists Sydney Garner (St. Mary’s Department of Economic Development); Molly Meehan (Charles County Department of Economic Development); Martin Proulx (Maryland Department of Agriculture); and Caroline Trossbach (Calvert County Department of Economic Development).
The executives traveled to the Loveville Produce Auction to experience local agriculture commerce in action, and then to Forrest Hall Farm in Mechanicsville, where David Wood, owner of the family farm and president of the Southern Maryland Wine Growers Cooperative, discussed agritourism with participants and how local farmers have diversified since Maryland’s 2000 Tobacco Buyout Program.
Class members dug deep into intersections of agricultural industry practices and environmental sustainability efforts in an honest conversation about the 2026 Chesapeake Bay and Watershed Report Card with local farmer JR Cosgrove, LSM ‘22 (Horsmon Farm); watermen Capts. Simon and Rachel Dean (Patuxent River Seafood); environmental scientist Dr. Bill Dennison (Chesapeake Biological Laboratory); state government representative Rachel Jones (Maryland Department of Agriculture); and economic development director Julie Oberg, LSM ‘23 (Calvert County Department of Economic Development). The report card is published by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science to provide transparent, detailed assessments of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.
Special thanks to Program Advocates Stacy Hutchinson, LSM '23, LMd '24; Julie Oberg, LSM '23; and Kevin Schmidt, LSM '23 for designing a truly memorable session; and to UMCES-Chesapeake Biological Laboratory for hosting LSM and sponsoring a wonderful breakfast and lunch. |
