5000

Our Mission:

AROO supports the St. Mary’s Animal Adoption and Resource Center (the Animal Shelter) and the surrounding Tri-County area, by raising funds for medical care, shelter improvements, and adoption or foster initiatives that are beyond the Shelter’s budget. We will also increase community engagement to improve animal welfare and adoption rates.

What Your Gift Will Do:

The St. Mary’s County Animal Shelter operates a Pet Pantry that provides free dog and cat food and cat litter to St. Mary’s County residents who need financial help caring for their pets. The Shelter’s guiding belief is simple but powerful: It’s far better to help keep pets in loving homes than to have them relinquished to the shelter. The Pantry serves St. Mary’s County residents with limited income who need help feeding and caring for their pets. The Pet Pantry is not funded by the county. It is entirely volunteer-based and depends on community donations to operate. The Shelter has recently seen a 50% increase in requests for help. Animal Rescue & Outreach Organization (AROO) is partnering with the Shelter to help raise funds and collect donations for this important community program. Together, we can make sure no family in St. Mary’s County has to surrender a beloved and trusting pet simply because of financial hardship.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We are a new 501(c)(3) Nonprofit this year. We are staffing committees including social media/graphics/photography; outreach and education; marketing and fund raising; shelter improvements and animal foster program – we have needs in all of them! Many of our members are also Shelter Volunteers who spend time with shelter animals helping to socialize them and make their days in the shelter better.
