This is a tradition started by LSM Class of ’13, with a desire to continue their LSM legacy by celebrating Diversity through a “Cultural Comfort” foods dinner. An outgrowth of the dinner has been a class recipe book of our favorite “Cultural Comfort” dishes. LSM’13’s John Felicitas reminds us what a cultural comfort dish is:
“All of us grew up and were molded by a culture! According to Wikipedia, “Cultural Comfort” food is food which provides a nostalgic or sentimental feeling to the consumer, and is often characterized by a high carbohydrate level and simple preparation. The nostalgia may be specific to either the individual or a specific culture. Translated, think of a food in your life that brings instant joy and fond memories. For some folks it is a dessert, others it is a main dish only prepared at celebrations. In short, “cultural comfort” food is whatever YOU say it is.”
