Our Mission:

The Calvert Marine Museum Society supports the mission and strategic initiatives of the Calvert Marine Museum through donations, grants, membership, fundraising, retail, and events.

What Your Gift Will Do:

To raise $10,000 on Giving Tuesday to support the Calvert Marine Museum Society’s mission to preserve the past and inspire the future through education, exhibits, and community engagement.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Visitor & Public-Facing Roles These involve interacting with museum guests and helping enhance visitor experience. Examples include: Visitor Centre Desk (greeters, information) Lighthouse Tour Guides / Docents (e.g., at the Cove Point Lighthouse or Lore Oyster House) Museum Store Sales & Support Behind-the-Scenes / Support Roles For volunteers who prefer off-visitor-floor tasks or have specialized skills: Aquarium / live exhibit care, specimen collection Boat restoration/maintenance (especially given their maritime heritage) Exhibit preparation, collections care, clerical support, maintenance work Clubs affiliated with the museum, e.g., Fossil Club, Garden Guild, Canoe & Kayak Club — these allow for more sustained volunteer involvement and community integration. Youth/Teen Opportunities The museum offers a “Junior Docent” program: teens can work alongside education staff, help with programs and events, engage with visitors.
