The Salvation Army of Southern Maryland purchased a large retail building off Doolittle Drive in Waldorf, MD, two years ago. It has a small, microwave-only kitchenette, which makes it hard to support our food insecure neighbors. Presently, we have to purchase prepared food like pizzas for dinner at our evening youth programs, rely on same-day donations or catering purchases for community events we host, and can only offer groceries and shelf-stable foods at our food distributions. With your support on this Day of Giving, we will be able to build out a full commercial kitchen and start cooking healthy meals for our youth, prepare economical and large-scale meals to offer during community events, plus offer hot meals for people struggling without enough food. This is especially valuable for our homeless and housing insecure neighbors who may not have a kitchen where they can easily turn groceries into meals. We expect our kitchen to be used for 20+ years and serve over 200,000 people. Thank you!
