LEONARDTOWN, Md. – September 1, 2022 – Leadership Southern Maryland (LSM) is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with The MIL Corporation (MIL). On August 25, 2022, MIL presented LSM with a $10,000 sponsorship designating the company as a Gold level sponsor.
Based in Lexington Park, Maryland, MIL provides innovative cyber, engineering, financial, and information technology services to the federal government. Tom Clark LSM’18 is an executive vice president at MIL and also serves as the vice president on LSM’s Board of Directors. “MIL is an engineering and technical services company with local roots that dates back over 40 years supporting our NAWCAD WOLF and NAVAIR customers, and we take great pride in supporting the communities where our workforce lives and works,” Clark explained. “We find great value in LSM and how it educates and inspires a diverse group of community leaders to create opportunities for collaborations and partnerships that have a direct impact on our workforce, our customers, and our tri-county community,” he said.
MIL boasts several LSM Executive Program graduates amongst their ranks including Senior Vice President Harvil Jenkins LSM’21. Jenkins believes LSM is making a difference in the community by connecting leaders from diverse backgrounds and organizations and inspiring collaboration. “LSM has provided me access to local government and business leaders,“ Jenkins said. “New opportunities are now available to me from a personal and business perspective. Before LSM, I thought some of these opportunities and connections were out of my reach,” he added.
MIL’s support of LSM goes beyond their involvement in and financial support of the Executive Program. The company has supported the participation of employees in LSM’s Emerging Leaders Program (LEAP) as well. Esha Bristol, a project manager at MIL, graduated from LEAP 2022 in June and found value in the program on both a personal and professional basis. “Participating in the LEAP program has been a positive and eye-opening experience that I am grateful to have been a part of,” Bristol said. “The six sessions not only provided the ability to enhance team building and networking skills, but also opportunities for self-reflection and growth.”
Fostering connections is a staple of LSM programs, helping the organization to further its mission and impact on the region. But the organization can’t achieve its goals without the engagement of businesses, graduates, and friends. “LSM exists to inform Southern Maryland’s leaders about industry and community needs in our three counties and to support them in addressing those needs collaboratively,” LSM Executive Director Sybol Anderson said. “MIL, a company that demonstrably values people, community, relationships, and collaboration, has long been an exceptional partner in LSM’s work. Our success absolutely depends on support such as theirs. We are extremely grateful for it.”
In addition to their partnership with LSM, MIL supports various organizations and efforts including the local Rotary club, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, and area food drives. The company also has a program called MIL CARES which organizes MIL involvement in community service efforts.
Leadership Southern Maryland is a nine-month, tuition-based program designed and dedicated to educate and inspire a diverse group of current and emerging leaders to create collaborations and partnerships to impact the community needs of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties. LSM reflects a cross-section of the region to include diversity of geographic location, profession, ethnicity, and gender.
